THE small tomb TREASURE

The Small Tomb near Shipka was excavated in 1992. It is located in the vicinity of ancient Seuthopolis, the most important Thracian settlement in the Kazanlak Valley. The settlement itself and the striking number of burial grounds around it provide valuable information on the Thracians' burial rites during the late Classical and the Hellenistic periods.

The Small Tomb provides evidence of a lavish burial of a local ruler. Among the funeral items were a gold ring decorated with the images of a goddess and a ruler, two gold necklaces and a gold chain. The gold objects found in the Small Tomb differ significantly from one another in their workmanship.
