Edvin Sougarev was born on 27 December 1953 in Sofia.
He graduated from the Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, with a
degree in Bulgarian Philology.
He worked as librarian and assistant professor at the Sofia University
and research associate at the Institute of Literature, Bulgarian Academy
of Sciences.

Leader of the EcoGlasnost
nation-wide movement since its foundation in December 1989 till his appointment
Ambassador of Bulgaria to Mongolia in 1997.
He was elected UDF deputy
to the Grand National Assembly, the 36th and 37th National Assemblies. Deputy Chair of the Anti-Corruption Committee in the 37th NA.
Member of the National Co-ordinating Council of the UDF.
1998 - 2001 Bulgaria's Ambassador to India.
2002 - elected member of the
UDF National Executive Council.
Political hard-liner, considered to
belong to the so-called "dagger" circle.
Author of poetry books.
Speaks German and Russian.
Married twice, with 4 children.
