Chachev, Evgeny

 

Evgeni Chachev was born on 17 July 1944 in Sofia.
He is a graduate in Civil Engineering and Finance and Credit.
His post-graduate studies are in Data Programming and Processing, Investment Process Organization and Management and Mathematical Modelling.
Evgeni Chachev worked as designer, supervisor, development and investment policy expert, and consulting company manager. He was Chairman of the Sofia Municipal Bank Managing Board and Chairman of the Commercial Bank Biochim Managing Board.
Chachev is Member of the Board of Managers of Glavbulgarstroy and President of the Board of Managers of Gazstroymontazh.
In May 1997 he became Deputy Minister of Regional and Urban Development.
In the summer of 1999 he signed the executive order for the demolition of George Dimitrov's Mausoleum in Sofia.
Deputy Chairman of the United Christian Democratic Centre /UCDC/, the party led by Sofia Mayor Stefan Sofiyanski.
In December 1999 he replaced Evgeny Bakardzhiev as Minister of Regional and Urban Development after the cabinet shuffle, until 2001 when UDF lost the parliamentary elections.
Co-chairman of the Joint Bulgarian-Cuban Commission for Commercial, Economic, and Research Development.
2001 - elected Member of Parliament, UDF, representative of the Haskovo constituency. Member of the Energy Committee and the Committee on Transport and Telecommunications. Member of the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
2004 - he joined the group of MPs (led by Ivan Kostov) who left the UDF (Union of Democratic Forces) and formed a new parliamentary group of the United Democratic Forces; later  they founded the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria right-wing party.
2005 - elected MP as representative of the Sofia 23 constituency on the DSB ticket.

Married, with a son and daughter.
