Emanuil Yordanov was born on August 10, 1960 in Sofia.
He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Kliment Ohridski University of  Sofia. 
E. Yordanov had practiced for 10 years as a counsellor in Kyustendil.
In 1997 he was elected MP of the Union of Democratic Forces in the 38th National Assembly,10th Kyustendil Constituency ticket, but he continued his lawyer's paractice. 
Lately he was Member of the Parliamentary Committee  for Legal Matters and Anticorruption Legislation, and Member of the Parliamentary Committee for Local Self-government and Regional Policy.
He is among the authors of the amendments to the Notaries Law and the new Bill on the Judiciary.
Yordanov was also member of the Temporary Committee for Stripping the immunity of Krastyo Trendafilov, a deputy from the BSP.
During the 1999 local elections campaign he was secretary of the Election Campaigns section at UDF's headquarters.
Emil Yordanov replaced Bogomil Bonev as Minister of the Interior in the cabinet reshuffle in early 2000.

2004 - elected deputy leader of the UDF and member of the National Executive Council.

2011 - member of  the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria; runs for vice president (with Rumen Hristov as candidate for president) put up by the Blue Coalition.

Married, with one daughter.
