Berlin-based Bulgarians Say "No to the Bombs!" (4 May 1999)
The war in Kosovo is mad, say 84 Bulgarian architects,
physicians, economists, students and other Bulgarian nationals working
and living in Berlin, in a fax sent to the Pari daily. They think
that the war may cause an environmental disaster in the Balkans. "For us
Bulgarians the way to Europe is now running through destroyed towns and
villages, across destroyed bridges, over the bodies of hundreds of People,
and, meandering along the clogged roads travelled by half a million refugees
driven from their homes, to end up at the demolished bridges over the Danube",
write they, calling the nation to say 'no' to the war. "We shouldn't cherish
any illusions that bombs are our civilizational choice and that it's a
question of peacekeeping operations", conclude our compatriots living in
Berlin.
