An outstanding Bulgarian scholar and researcher in the field of Slavic and Byzantine medieval art.
Director of the Centre for Slavo-Byzantine studies “Prof. Ivan Dujcev” at Sofia University ”St. Cl. Ohridsky”.
She graduated from the Sofia University “St. Cl. Ohridsky”, Slavic Studies, in 1965, and the Moscow State University, History and Theory of Art, in 1969.
In 1987-1995 she was vice-president of the International Association for the Study of Slavic Cultures under UNESCO.
Between 1989 and 1997 she was visiting professor at: the Yale University, USA /1989/, the University of Jerusalem /1991/, the Sorbonne, Paris /1992/, the Institute of Euro-Asian Studies in Venezia , Italy /1995-97/.
Author of about 500 publications on medieval culture and modern art. Her major publications are:
